Chapter 1

Beethoven - Soulwax New Remix

Yo, whaddup y'all. This new remix of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony by Soulwax and Walter Murphy hit da streets today. Haven't seen this level of art ability since my mentor Skrillex dropped those songs everyone recognizes way back in 2011. But real talk, Beethoven better get used to seeing his name with Soulwax as masters of the classics after this one.

  1. Beethoven I thought you were dead! Why does this offend you dawg?

  2. First of all, don't worry about me being dead. Second of all, I'm not your "dawg". But third of all, I can't see how you can call this art. This is just using my music and adding some claps and making it sound weird. True art takes masterful crafting and ingenuity. Anyone could do this.

  3. Man, I'll ignore that little part about remixes not taking crafting and ingenuity since you are probably still getting used to the 21st century. Do you even know how remixes are made?

  5. Since you asked, let me br-br-break it down for ya. There's pretty much a five-part process. First, you have to identify the song you want to remix. Second, you have to figure out what you want to do to remix it. Then (and this is where one might start struggling), you have to slice up the track to find usable sounds typically using computer software. Next, you mess with delays, amplitude modulation, pitch shifting, etc. to get a unique sound. Lastly, you reconstruct your edits to put it all together and make the final product. Sound simple grandpa?

  6. Alright I admit that sounds like it takes some skill I suppose. I still don't see how that's art, though.

  7. Skill knocks out one part of the art equation...didn't you say that's what art takes? (skooled). Stay tuned to some more posts and I'll show you how else remixes are artful. And if you need any more info about the remix, find Eduardo Navas's article called "Remix Defined".
